The IBM 709 was announced by IBM in January 1957. The model 709 is later called model 7090. IBM makes available small input/output processors to increase the speed of the 709 systems by taking some of load off the CPU. . In July 1958, IBM contracted to supply transistorized 709's for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS). |
