IBM 709 (1957) (later called the model 7090)

The IBM 709 was announced by IBM in January 1957. The model 709 is later called model 7090. IBM makes available small input/output processors to increase the speed of the 709 systems by taking some of load off the CPU. . In July 1958, IBM contracted to supply transistorized 709's for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).
